DAV
3 Philippines Announcements
October 23,
2008
To all
DAV Ch. 3 Members, other DAV Members,
Potential Members and Interested Veterans;
Our
DAV Chapter 3 office has recently tried to
update and add veterans to our DAV Ch. 3
Mailing List. We, at the Chapter want to
ensure all veterans and our members receive
chapter information, meeting minutes,
veterans data and any notices of VARO or VA
OPC changes. In addition,, we would like
all interested veterans to be on our DAV
Chapter Information Bulletin (CIB) in which
one of our dedicated DAV members, Joe
Godfrey is the Editor. The CIB or Item of
Interest may be of value or help to you. As
an example, the recent publication we sent
out ref the 5.8% COLA effective Jan 1,,
2009.
We
would like to invite all veterans in the
area who are receiving VA compensation or
those with DAV membership in another chapter
to have the opportunity to join our DAV
Chapter 3. There are some members who
belong to a DAV chapter in the states and
have resided here, who may want to transfer
their membership to DAV Chapter 3. That is
no problem and and a simple process. For
our local members; we would like your input
on such matters as meeting
agenda, venue, time and date. We
would also like any members and/or
veteran's comments on our DAV 3 office
operation. Our Chapter does a lot for our
veterans, regardless if they are DAV members
or not. We are limited on some things we
can do as our Chapter does not have a
canteen or any outside source of income
other than our grateful donations from
veterans utilizing the DAV Ch. 3 office
services. We do receive an annual rebate
check from DAV National based on our
membership.
In our
DAV 3 office we office veterans assistance
with at least two Service Representatives (SRs)
available Monday through Friday. We are
available in assisting widows, families and
a veteran's significant other in getting
their affairs in order and assisting upon a
veteran's demise. The office maintains and
updates hand outs with helpful information,
especially those new in the area; in-country
FAX service; SRs maintain a current
veteran's data reading file, and our
Secretary can make excellent business cards
at a reasonable price.
We do
need everyone's help from all our veterans
with our DAV office telephone service. The
service is to let veterans call the VA OPC
to check on appointments or medications and
the VARO to check on a claim, educational
assistance or any other business with the
VARO Service Center. This telephone
service used to be free for anyone needing
to make a call, however due to some abuse in
long, multiple or unauthorized calls, we
are asking those needing to use the
telephone in the future to please drop at
least P10 for a normal call or the
SR/Secretary will ask for a fair amount
based on a duration of the call, not to
exceed P50. It is best to ask the person
you are calling to call you back on
your Cell or the DAV telephone to cut the
cost.
So we
ask all veterans and DAV members who have
not been by the office or in awhile, to
please stop by and say hello. Any veteran
who receives this memo or other information
from this office and wishes to be removed
from our mailing list, just drop us an
E-Mail and it will be done.
In
Service to All Veterans,
E.
Ralph Milward
